Lurcher SOS is a Surrey based Lurcher, Greyhound and Sighthound Rescue. Now in our 8th successful year, Lurcher SOS was started in 2010 by two lifelong lurcher owners. We have a network of supporters, fundraisers and foster homes in Kent, Hampshire, Sussex, Surrey, Essex, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, but we home our dogs throughout England, Wales and Scotland.
We are all volunteers and our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and home abused, abandoned and neglected Lurchers, Greyhounds and Sighthounds. Most of our Hounds come from Ireland and the UK, but we are proud to have helped Spanish, Cypriot and even Romanian and Egyptian Sighthounds!
Lurcher SOS takes in Sighthounds of all ages; from puppies to oldies. These dogs come to us for various reasons – some are strays, some have been ill treated and some needed to find a new home simply because their owners no longer wanted them. Some of these dogs are so emotionally and physically scarred that they will need long periods in foster homes, learning to trust humans again.
Our priority will always be dogs due to be put to sleep, or dogs in danger both in Ireland and the UK. We will also try to help other Sighthound rescues wherever possible. Rehoming direct from private individuals will rarely be considered.
All our dogs are placed in warm and loving foster homes where they are carefully assessed and, if needed, rehabilitated. We do not have kennels as we believe that a home environment is the best way to assess a hound, and this enables us to best match a dog with a prospective adopter.
All Lurcher SOS Rescue dogs are neutered (where possible) and given full veterinary treatment, microchipped and vaccinated, wormed and deflead before going to their new homes.
We are a non-profit organization and receive no funding. We rely solely on donations from the public and are always in need of fundraising support to cover the cost of the care of our dogs. We are always actively seeking new foster parents and permanent homes for our rescue dogs. For more information on how you can get involved please look at our “Help Lurcher SOS” page.
We hope you enjoy your visit to our site. Please bookmark us and come back to visit again soon. Our dogs for adoption change frequently as we take in new dogs all the time.
